New Delhi, April 15, 2025 — In a significant ruling delivered on Tuesday, the Supreme Court of India issued a stern warning to parents, urging them to be “extremely vigilant” in protecting their children from the growing threat of organized trafficking networks.

The court highlighted the alarming rise in cases where children are being targeted and exploited by criminal gangs. These networks, according to the judgment, are involved in trafficking minors for a range of abuses, including sexual exploitation, forced labour, begging, petty crimes, child marriage, and even recruitment into armed conflict.

One of the most disturbing concerns raised by the court was the emerging trend of masking the illegal sale of infants as legitimate inter-country adoptions. The bench emphasized that such practices often occur under the guise of legal procedures, making it harder for authorities to track and prevent them.

“Parents must remain extremely vigilant. The threat is real and closer than we often think,” the court noted in its judgment. It stressed the need for stronger awareness among families, communities, and local authorities to identify and report suspicious activity.

The court also urged state and central governments to strengthen child protection systems and ensure swift action against trafficking rackets. It called for better coordination between law enforcement, child welfare agencies, and international adoption regulators to prevent abuse.

This judgment comes amid increasing national concern over child safety, particularly in vulnerable communities where access to education and security is limited. Activists welcomed the court’s statement, saying it reinforces the urgent need to treat child trafficking as a serious and ongoing crisis.
