Dehradun, February 17, 2025 — Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has called for the inclusion of the Pindar River in the National River Linking Project, highlighting its potential to transform water accessibility in the Kumaon region. Speaking at a national workshop on natural water source conservation organized by NITI Aayog in Dehradun, CM Dhami emphasized that linking the Pindar with Kosi, Garur, and Gomti rivers is a necessity of the hour.

Addressing delegates and experts at a hotel on Rajpur Road, the Chief Minister stated that integrating these river systems could bring lasting benefits to the region. “By connecting the Pindar River with other rivers in Kumaon, over 625 villages and approximately two lakh people in the area stand to gain from improved irrigation and water availability,” he said.

CM Dhami urged NITI Aayog to consider the proposal seriously and ensure that the river-linking initiative includes this vital project in its central framework. He noted that such efforts are critical for sustainable rural development, especially in hilly regions where water access remains a challenge.

The workshop focused on policy frameworks and grassroots solutions for conserving natural water sources across India. Experts, policymakers, and environmentalists participated in discussions to devise actionable strategies for long-term water sustainability.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to environmental conservation and rural upliftment, asserting that water connectivity and resource management must remain top priorities for both state and central governments.

The event concluded with a resolution to conduct further studies and surveys to assess the technical feasibility of the proposed river-linking project in Uttarakhand.
