March 24, 2025 | New Delhi:
On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, the central government will honor states and villages that have made significant progress in eliminating tuberculosis (TB) under the Prime Minister’s TB-Free India Campaign. A special ceremony will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday to mark the milestone.

During the event, the government will announce the extension of the campaign’s next phase—a 300-day action plan to intensify efforts in the nationwide fight against TB. This follows the successful completion of the campaign’s initial 100-day phase, which saw widespread participation and measurable results.

A major highlight of the event will be the recognition of 50,000 villages that have been officially declared TB-free. These villages will receive formal certificates from the central government as a testament to their successful efforts in public health awareness, early detection, and effective treatment of tuberculosis.

Officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, state representatives, health workers, and partner organizations will attend the ceremony. The government emphasized that the fight against TB requires community-driven health initiatives, early diagnosis, nutritional support, and continued public engagement.

Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated, “This campaign is not just about medical intervention; it’s about transforming public health behavior at the grassroots level. Our goal is to make India TB-free by 2025, and these 50,000 villages have shown that it’s achievable.”

The event is expected to set the tone for the next phase of action and renew the nation’s commitment to eliminating TB, which continues to affect thousands across India every year.
