Dehradun: In preparation for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has announced the launch of offline registration starting April 28. To streamline the process and manage the growing number of pilgrims, 65 registration counters will be established across key locations—Haridwar, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, and Herbertpur.
The annual spiritual journey, which officially begins on April 30, already saw a surge in interest with over 18 lakh pilgrims registering online since the Aadhaar-based system went live on March 20. Among them, more than 16,700 are international visitors, reflecting the global appeal of the sacred pilgrimage.
Officials have indicated that while 60% of the registrations are being processed online, around 40% will be facilitated through offline channels. This offers flexibility for those unable to register digitally. As part of this initiative, Rishikesh will see 30 counters, Haridwar will have 20, and Herbertpur (Vikasnagar region) will host 15 counters to serve the public efficiently.
In addition, group travelers will be given the convenience of registering directly at their lodging places, easing the process for tour groups and larger gatherings.
Yogendra Gangwar, the nodal officer for Char Dham registration, confirmed the developments and reassured that all arrangements are being made to ensure a smooth, safe, and spiritual experience for devotees heading to the sacred shrines this season.
