March 16, 2025 | Uttarakhand:
A sudden change in weather brought a fresh wave of chill across Uttarakhand, with heavy snowfall in the hill districts of Uttarkashi and Chamoli, and rainfall reported in Haridwar and surrounding plains. The shift in temperature has brought back a mild winter-like chill, catching many residents by surprise.
In the higher altitudes, including Gangotri and Badrinath, heavy snowfall has led to the closure of several mountain routes, including portions of the Char Dham highway. Road connectivity to key pilgrimage and remote areas was temporarily disrupted due to snow accumulation.
While the snowfall significantly impacted the mountainous regions, the plains felt a lighter impact, with minimal drops in temperature despite the rain. Haridwar witnessed steady showers, adding a refreshing touch to the air but without major disturbances.
The weather department has advised travelers, especially those headed towards high-altitude destinations, to stay updated with road and weather conditions. Authorities are working to clear the snow and ensure the safe resumption of transport and pilgrimage routes.
Locals have welcomed the return of cooler temperatures, offering a brief relief from the early summer heat that had gripped the state just days earlier.
