Dehradun: Tension prevailed in the Koruwa area of Dehradun district on April 25 after several parents accused the warden of the Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential School of physically assaulting students. The incident sparked outrage among the locals, leading to a roadblock on the Kalsi-Chakrata motor road by angry parents demanding immediate action against the accused staff member.
According to the parents, the warden allegedly beat multiple students, causing them visible injuries and leaving them frightened. “Our daughters are scared and traumatized. They’ve told us about being beaten badly,” said one of the protesting guardians. “This is unacceptable in an institution meant to provide safety and care.”
The protest led to a disruption of traffic on the busy Kalsi-Chakrata road for several hours as demonstrators raised slogans and called for the warden’s suspension. Many residents and commuters were caught in the blockade until authorities arrived to pacify the crowd.
School officials have not yet issued a formal statement, but local education department representatives have reportedly been informed of the incident. Preliminary inquiries are said to be underway.
“We are taking the matter seriously and will investigate thoroughly,” said a local official, adding that student welfare is the department’s top priority.
Meanwhile, the affected students are receiving medical attention, and counselors may be brought in to support their emotional well-being.
The incident has once again raised concerns about student safety in residential schools and the need for stricter monitoring and accountability of staff. Parents have warned of further agitation if prompt and fair action is not taken in the matter.
