March 22, 2025 | Saharanpur:
A serious accident occurred during the construction of a bridge on the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Expressway near the Ganga Link Canal in Saharanpur. Three large cement beams collapsed while being placed on a pillar, trapping three workers underneath the heavy debris.
The incident caused panic at the construction site, prompting a quick response from rescue teams and nearby workers. The injured laborers were pulled out from the rubble and rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently reported to be stable.
Witnesses at the site described a sudden loud crash as the concrete beams gave way, sending dust and debris flying. “It all happened in a matter of seconds. Workers ran to help, but the beams were too heavy to move without machines,” said a fellow laborer.
Preliminary reports suggest that the contracting firm overseeing the project is under scrutiny for allegedly using substandard construction materials. Locals and labor union representatives have demanded an immediate inquiry into the quality of materials and the safety protocols being followed at the site.
Officials from the district administration have visited the location and ordered a thorough investigation. “Strict action will be taken if negligence or poor-quality materials are found to be the cause,” an official stated.
The Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Expressway is a high-priority infrastructure project, and such incidents raise concerns over the safety standards being maintained during its execution.
