March 8, 2025 | Dehradun:
On this International Women’s Day, the prestigious Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun stands as a symbol of evolving gender equality and empowerment. The institution, with a legacy of over 100 years, is now nurturing a new generation of women who aspire to serve the nation as military officers. This year marks a significant milestone as the sixth batch of girl cadets is set to graduate from RIMC.
Since opening its doors to girls in 2022, RIMC has witnessed a transformative journey. Not only are cadets receiving rigorous academic and military training, but they are also being shaped into resilient and disciplined leaders. At the forefront of this change is a team of 11 dedicated women educators who are mentoring and guiding these young aspirants—not just in academics, but in the values of courage, patience, and pride.
Lieutenant Commander Sangeeta Sehrawat, the academic coordinator at RIMC, emphasized the unique nature of the institution. “RIMC is not like a regular school. Here, we prepare cadets—especially girls—not only for academic excellence but also to embody strength, resilience, and honor. These values are essential in shaping them into future officers of the armed forces,” she said.
She further added, “There’s no need for a special day to honor women. What we truly need is a society that understands and practices gender equality every day.”
RIMC, established in 1922, has long been a feeder institution for the Indian Armed Forces. The inclusion of girls in its rigorous training program reflects a broader shift toward inclusivity and equal opportunity in defense services. These young cadets, guided by their mentors, are not just preparing for a career—they are rewriting history.
As the sixth batch of girl cadets prepares to step out into the world, they carry not just dreams, but a vision of a more inclusive and empowered future for women in uniform.
