March 9, 2025 | Rishikesh:
The spiritual town of Rishikesh came alive on Sunday as the week-long International Yoga Festival commenced at the renowned Parmarth Niketan Ashram. The festival, which draws yoga enthusiasts from across the globe, began with the practice of ancient yogic disciplines during the Brahma Muhurta, the sacred pre-dawn hours.
On the first day, internationally acclaimed yoga teacher Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa from the United States led a powerful session of Kundalini Yoga, guiding participants through deep inner practices aimed at awakening energy and mindfulness. Her session drew enthusiastic participation from seekers eager to delve into spiritual and physical well-being.
This year, the festival has witnessed overwhelming global interest, with over 1,000 yoga practitioners from more than 50 countries attending. Participants engaged in a wide array of activities including asana practice, meditation, pranayama, and explorations into Ayurveda, blending tradition with contemporary health wisdom.
The evening brought a moment of serenity and cultural pride as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami arrived at the ashram. He participated in the iconic Ganga Aarti, held on the banks of the holy river, adding spiritual grandeur to the event. His presence reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting yoga as a symbol of India’s cultural heritage and holistic living.
The International Yoga Festival continues to serve as a melting pot of cultures and philosophies, where the ancient science of yoga becomes a universal language of peace, health, and harmony. The coming days promise more enriching sessions, spiritual dialogues, and healing experiences for all who have gathered in the yoga capital of the world.
