A powerful earthquake, registering a magnitude of 6.1, struck Nepal early Friday morning, shaking the capital city of Kathmandu and several other parts of the country. The earthquake, which occurred at approximately 5:30 AM local time, sent residents into a state of panic as tremors were felt across the Kathmandu Valley and beyond.

The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be located in the central region of Nepal, close to the border with China. While the tremors were significant and felt throughout Kathmandu, initial reports suggest that there have been no major casualties or significant damage. Authorities are still assessing the full impact, and emergency teams are on high alert, ready to respond should any more serious effects be reported.

In the capital, many buildings swayed as the quake rattled the ground beneath, prompting people to flee their homes in fear of aftershocks. The early morning timing of the earthquake meant that most residents were indoors, potentially limiting the number of people exposed to harm.

The earthquake also affected several other regions of Nepal, including the eastern and western parts of the country. Though the tremors were strong, no major structural damages have been reported yet. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid tall structures in case of further tremors.

Nepal’s vulnerability to earthquakes, particularly due to its position in the seismically active Himalayas, has been a source of concern for years. The 2015 earthquake, which devastated large parts of the country and claimed thousands of lives, remains a recent reminder of the region’s seismic risks.

As the government and local authorities continue to monitor the situation, residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions. With aftershocks likely in the coming hours, people have been urged to stay outdoors in open areas, away from buildings, to ensure their safety.

While the immediate impact of the earthquake appears to be contained, the tremor serves as a reminder for ongoing preparedness in earthquake-prone areas. Emergency services are standing by, ready to assist if necessary, as Nepal braces for any potential aftershock activity.
