March 19, 2025 | Dehradun:
The spiritual heart of the capital, Shri Darbar Sahib, is set to host the annual Jhanda Ji Fair, beginning March 19 and continuing until April 6. With deep religious significance and a long-standing cultural heritage, the fair attracts devotees from across the country every year.
Preparations are already in full swing as authorities coordinate logistics, crowd management, and ceremonial arrangements. In the run-up to the main event, the ceremonial flagpole (Dhwajdand) was brought to Shri Darbar Sahib on March 16, marking the commencement of key pre-fair rituals. On the same day, the traditional sewing of the ‘Gilaf’ (the sacred cloth that covers the flag) also began.
The Jhanda Ji Mela is celebrated with great devotion and reverence, symbolizing unity, service, and faith. The towering flag, which is hoisted during the fair, becomes a beacon of spiritual pride for devotees.
Local authorities have assured that all safety, sanitation, and crowd control measures are in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration. The fair not only serves as a spiritual gathering but also fosters communal harmony and showcases the rich cultural fabric of Uttarakhand.
