Kotdwar, Uttarakhand – April 27, 2025:
A massive forest fire that broke out in the Kotdwar region of Uttarakhand has intensified, spreading rapidly and posing a serious challenge to local authorities. Despite relentless efforts, the blaze remains uncontrolled, consuming large stretches of forest land.
An 80-member team comprising forest department personnel, disaster response workers, and local volunteers has been deployed to contain the fire. Equipped with water sprays, fire beaters, and other firefighting gear, the team is working round the clock amid harsh conditions and limited visibility.
The fire, believed to have started in the dense forest areas surrounding Kotdwar, has escalated due to dry weather, rising temperatures, and gusty winds. Eyewitnesses report thick plumes of smoke and a strong smell of burning vegetation spreading across nearby villages.
Authorities have urged residents in adjacent areas to remain alert and avoid forested zones until the situation is under control. “Our teams are making every possible effort to douse the fire. However, the terrain and climate are making the task extremely difficult,” a forest official said.
There is growing concern about the impact on local wildlife and biodiversity, with several species forced to flee their natural habitats. Environmentalists have stressed the need for better fire management strategies and increased awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
As firefighting operations continue, the administration is closely monitoring the situation and has not ruled out seeking additional support if needed.
