Dehradun, February 21, 2025 — Uttarakhand has shown remarkable economic progress since its formation in 2000, outpacing its fellow newly created states — Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh — in terms of growth. This significant insight was revealed in the Economic Survey Report for 2024–25, which was tabled in the state assembly on Thursday by Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
According to the report, the size of Uttarakhand’s economy has increased 21 times since the inception of the state. The findings paint a picture of robust and sustained economic development over the past two decades.
While presenting the report, the minister highlighted that Uttarakhand has consistently worked towards infrastructure development, industrial expansion, and improved social indicators, all of which have contributed to this impressive economic trajectory. The state’s focus on sectors like tourism, hydropower, education, and healthcare has played a key role in strengthening its financial foundations.
The survey also underlined the state’s ability to manage resources effectively while launching progressive welfare schemes aimed at inclusive development. Officials noted that this consistent upward economic movement reflects Uttarakhand’s potential to emerge as a model of sustainable and balanced growth among India’s hill states.
Experts believe that Uttarakhand’s emphasis on green energy, urban modernization, digital governance, and investments in youth and skill development have set it apart from other states formed around the same time.
As the state continues to grow, policymakers and citizens alike are optimistic that this momentum will lead to a stronger, self-reliant Uttarakhand contributing meaningfully to India’s larger development vision.
