Kalsi, March 2, 2025 — A 17-day training program focused on animal husbandry for rural women concluded at the Government Dairy Farm in Kalsi. Organized in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development and the Animal Husbandry Department, the initiative aimed to empower women from various districts of Uttarakhand by equipping them with essential technical and practical knowledge in livestock management.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dairy Farm Manager Dr. S.K. Singh Bartwal emphasized the transformative potential of animal husbandry in improving the livelihoods of women in rural areas. “Women residing in villages can strengthen their financial independence by adopting animal husbandry as a reliable source of income,” he said. He highlighted how integrating animal husbandry with self-employment could enable women to earn both recognition and financial success across the state.
Dr. Bartwal further noted that several government schemes at both central and state levels are currently in operation through the Ministry of Animal Husbandry. These schemes, he said, offer significant opportunities for women to establish sustainable careers in livestock farming.
A total of 29 women from different districts of Uttarakhand participated in the program. During the training, they received hands-on learning in animal care, nutrition, breeding techniques, and disease prevention.
Senior scientist Dr. A.P.S. Aswal shared valuable insights on best practices for feeding, housing, and breeding animals, along with methods to prevent common livestock diseases. The session was designed to help participants apply scientific knowledge to traditional practices, enhancing productivity and profitability.
Also present at the event were Dr. Amit Deoradi, Dr. Mridula Tiwari, Dr. Mayank Maithani, Mushir Ahmed, Dr. Manoj Gupta, Dhirendra Singh, and Dr. S.S. Bisht. The event concluded with words of encouragement to the participants, urging them to apply their newly acquired skills in their communities and inspire others to follow suit.
