March 15, 2025 | Dehradun:
The festival of Holi brought not just vibrant colors to Dehradun but also a significant spike in liquor sales. According to official data, the city recorded liquor sales exceeding ₹8 crore, marking a sharp 54.63% increase compared to last year’s Holi celebrations.
On the eve of Holi, the demand peaked with nearly 1.77 lakh bottles sold across the city. Beer sales also witnessed an impressive jump, more than doubling compared to normal days. Industry insiders noted that both local liquor shops and premium outlets experienced record footfall.
Typically, the daily liquor sales in Dehradun hover around ₹5 crore, but festive enthusiasm and social gatherings pushed the numbers significantly higher this time.
Officials attributed the surge to multiple factors, including extended celebrations, favorable weather, and increased consumer spending. While the rise in sales reflects the celebratory spirit of the people, authorities also ensured strict enforcement of safety and traffic regulations to maintain order during the festivities.
The dramatic increase in liquor consumption during Holi once again highlights the need for responsible celebration, as well as balanced awareness around public health and safety.
