Dehradun, February 22, 2025 — The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on Saturday passed the state’s ₹1,01,175.33 crore budget for the financial year 2025–26 by voice vote. This milestone marks the completion of a significant financial exercise, even as opposition parties raised concerns and submitted cut motions on nine budget heads, all of which were ultimately rejected.
The budget was cleared on the fifth day of the Assembly session, which saw extensive discussions and debates throughout the day. Due to it being a non-official business day, Question Hour was not held, and the session focused on discussions under Rule 58 and budget proceedings.
During the pre-lunch session, legislators debated a variety of issues including education, forest conservation, and road infrastructure, which were brought forward through an adjournment motion by the opposition. Following lunch, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Premchand Aggarwal tabled individual budget heads for approval.
Opposition members, citing inadequacy in several sectors, proposed cut motions on nine specific budget allocations. These proposals, however, did not gain the support needed and were dismissed after detailed head-wise discussions.
After the budget’s passage, Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan adjourned the Assembly sine die, marking the end of the current session.
The 2025–26 budget, which crosses the ₹1 lakh crore mark for the first time in the state’s history, reflects the government’s focus on infrastructure development, public welfare, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
Despite differences in perspective, the smooth passage of the budget signals a step forward in implementing the government’s vision for a stronger and more prosperous Uttarakhand in the coming fiscal year.
